Introduction

The Department of Cardiology came into existence in May 2016 and since then the Department has progressed gradually in clinical care, academic & research and public health awareness.

Clinical: It is renowned high volume cardiac centre in the region for its exceptional patient care and clinical outcomes. Our team of experienced Cardiologists, Nursing officers and Cardiac technicians provide top-tier cardiac services for patients with various heart conditions. Our invasive Lab is equipped with two state-of-the-art Cath labs (Siemens Artis zee Biplane and Philips Azurion 7 AlluraClarity) and modern diagnostic interventions (IVUS – Philips IntraSight with co-registration, OCT- OPTISTM, ROTAPRO™ Rotational Atherectomy), with the help of which we ensure round the clock precise cardiac interventions (Coronary and peripheral Angiography and angioplasty, Structural heart interventions (BAV, BPV, BMV, TAVR), Paediatric cardiac interventions including neonates (Cath study, balloon valvulotomy, PDA stenting and device closures etc), EP and pacing services). Non-invasive lab is equipped with five echocardiography machines (Philips EPIQ 7, GE E95 etc), two TMT machines (GE T2100) and ABPM, Holter and ECG services. Our compassionate staff and well-equipped CCU and wards further enhance the quality of care provided. We offer comprehensive treatment services for conditions such as Heart failure, congenital heart diseases and Cardiomyopathies. Our high success rates in cardiology procedures reflect the expertise and dedication of our team.

Academics: All faculty members are also actively involved in the teaching and training of DM Cardiology, MedTech students, School of Public health students and undergraduate medical students. The department emphasizes hands-on clinical experience, with DM students engaging in clinical work under the guidance of faculty members to develop both basic clinical and interventional competencies. The Department has published more than 50 PubMed indexed papers including journals like NEJM, JACC etc.

Research: A dedicated research team operates within the OPD complex, maintaining daily research activities under the supervision of a principal investigator and funded by ICMR, Department of Biotechnology, World heart federation and various Start-ups. Research initiatives primarily focus on the validation of new medical devices, multicentric international studies, and drug trials, contributing to advancements in cardiovascular care.
