Introduction
Department of Biochemistry started with the instituting of AIIMS Jodhpur by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) in September 2012. The department activities are divided into teaching, research and patient care services by way of providing advanced and routine biochemical analyses for diagnosis and prognosis. Department has facilities for research in the field of genetics, molecular biology, immunology, clinical chemistry, hormones, nutrition etc. It is the recognized Lead Referral Centre by the Indian Society for Lead Awareness and Research. The teaching activities include conducting lectures and practical exercises for the undergraduate medical (MBBS), as well as undergraduate Nursing classes. In undergraduate teaching we employ innovative teaching techniques such as Problem Based Learning, OSPEs, OSCEs and Tutorials etc. The faculty is involved in research activities related to basic and clinical research. The funding for research is obtained from research grants from intramural sources and extramural funding agencies. Currently there are 4 faculty members and 15 staff members working in the department.
